When it comes to cosmetic procedures, bio-fillers are becoming more and more common. Bio-fillers are injected into sunken areas of the face, resulting in a “plumping” effect in that area. This is used to address signs of aging, cosmetic asymmetries, and enhancing features. As your bio-filler appointment is approaching, it pays to be prepared. Here are some steps you should take to get ready!

Discuss Your Medical History with Your Dentist

Even if you don’t have any serious health issues, it’s a good idea to let your dentist know about any medical conditions you have and any medications that you are taking. This is important in order to ensure that there aren’t any possible interactions that could be dangerous. For example, if you are on blood thinners or anti-inflammatory medications, they can make bruising more likely. You should also let your dentist know if you are pregnant, nursing, or allergic to any medications. By having this discussion with your dentist, they can ensure that you are a good candidate for bio-fillers or if you should wait till a later time to have this treatment completed.

Don’t Drink Alcohol

Did you know that alcohol can have a blood-thinning effect? Before you get your bio-fillers, you should stay away from alcohol for at least 24 hours. However, if possible, three days is long enough to get rid of those trace amounts of alcohol that are lingering in your system.

Limit Your Salt Intake

Too much salt can cause your body to retain water. This could mean additional swelling after your injections. You should do your best to avoid consuming too many salty snacks for a few days before your bio-filler appointment. This way, you can reduce your risk of inflammation.

No Hair Removal

A common self-care step in skincare routines is to remove unwanted facial hair. However, you shouldn’t do this prior to your bio-filler treatment. This could lead to irritation at the injection site. If you want to have hair removal treatment, chemical peels, or another procedure done to remove unwanted hair, it is best to wait until after you have received your bio-fillers. This will reduce your risk of irritation.

By taking these easy steps above, you can reduce your risk of having a negative reaction and end up with the best possible results!
